RIDE INFORMATION
You can enter as a team but you'll need to stick together. If you know you'll ride at different paces and meet up at the end of the day, enter as individuals.
A GPS tracker is not required but riders must understand that there is little to no mobile network coverage between Arapuni and Mangakino. Make your riding intentions well known. Carrying a Personal Locator Beacon (these can be hired) is useful resource to help emergency services find you in the event of a serious accident.
E-bikes are welcome but you’ll need to manage and plan your battery life.
This is proudly an inclusive ride that welcomes trans and gender queer women.
RIDE GUIDELINES
All riders should...
RIDE SELF-SUPPORTED
-
You ride the whole thing carrying the gear, food and water you need to safely complete the ride.
-
No-one transports your bags. No-one drops you food. No-one else fixes your flats.
-
You can access third party resources available to everyone e.g. shops, cafes, accommodation providers, deliveries to public addresses/post shops, bike mechanics.
-
Be prepared. Carry the right gear, tools, and emergency supplies to look after yourself.
-
Check out the gear and training sections on the Resources page for more guidance.
BE A TIDY BIKER. LEAVE ONLY BIKE TRACKS
Carry all your rubbish and dispose of it properly.
In case of bathroom emergencies, bury your poop or carry it in a bag. Yes. I said it.
OBEY ALL PUBLIC LAWS AND THE ROAD CODE
Helmets on.
EMBRACE THE CHALLENGE
Have a sense of adventure (and humour). It might piss down or take you way longer than you thought to get somewhere. Type 2 fun is almost certainly guaranteed.
EMPOWER OTHERS
Cheer on fellow riders. High five them at the top of a hill.
Stop and check if they need help if they are stopped.
BE COMFORTABLE…
-
Dealing with a flat tyre.
-
Riding mountain bike trails – sections of the river and lake trails are grade 3/4 which means paths can be narrow, uneven, muddy, steep, with loose dirt, tight corners and/or drop offs. Get some experience with this type of riding and ensure that you have the right tyres on your bike for a mountain bike trail.
-
Riding on the open road with vehicles passing you at 100km.
LEAVE A GOOD IMPRESSION WITH THE LOCALS
Be considerate to other trail and road users.
Don't expect places to be open late or accept credit card. Bring cash and call ahead.
BE OVER THE AGE OF 16 OR RIDE IN A TEAM WITH A GUARDIAN
This event welcomes riders of all ages.
